Goal Setting
The Inspiration For Follow Through
What separates one personal trainer from another? Is
it years of experience, education or number of certifications
earned? Or, is it the ability to listen to you, the client,
understand your goals, work with you to refine those goals and then tailor
an exercise program accordingly??
Part of your first session will be spent
creating S.M.A.R.T. goals:
| Specific |
"I want to train to run the October 22, 2006,
Chicago Marathon in 3:45."
"I want to exercise 3 times per week for 1 hour
sessions for 3 months."
|
| Measurable |
Record practice runs and compare marathon time to
goal time.
Record number of times you exercise per week for
3 months.
|
| Attainable |
Create realistic goals: If you can only train 2 hours per week for the
marathon, will this be enough to attain your 3:45
goal?
|
| Relevant |
Choose a physical activity that will be of
interest to you: You
hate running! Therefore, training for the Chicago Marathon as
a way to decrease body fat is not a S.M.A.R.T.
goal.
|
| Time-Bound |
The Chicago Marathon is Sunday, October 22,
2006.
After 3 months, did you achieve your goal of
exercising 3 times/week? |
Setting goals gives you a roadmap to follow so you can achieve success
in all aspects of life. |
